Best breakfast in Flagler Beach/Palm Coast! If I had it my way, I would wake up every morning and head to Funky Pelican to have a Mimosa, their funky fruit salad, and extra crispy bacon while overlooking the coast on their outdoor patio. It's seriously perfection. Service is always prompt and cheerful, and we've never had a bad meal. Prices are terrific as well!

I have eaten there four times. The first was an evening dinner with my husband. Ordered the salmon special. Special due to the fact it was ready to be thrown out. Terrible. Next three times were with a group and had a terrible lunch and two other dinners. Shrimp overcooked and fish tacos were small, flakey pieces, as if left over on in pan!? Tonight will be the last time. The grits and grouper were ridiculous. The fish were small pieces so deep fried that there was no taste. Grits, average. Not worth the view.

The view is amazing and their Bloody Mary was very very delicious. But that's where it stops. We had Ahi Tuna Appetizer- the tuna tasted stale, most likely has been frozen before (perhaps the worst I've had ever). We also had their chicken wings - which were drenched in so much oil that it was hard to taste any chicken. We might go back for the view and the Bloody Mary, but not for the food. 3 stars because of the view and the drinks, otherwise it would have been 1 star

Our waitress was nice but the he Key Lime Pie had a metallic taste and we weren't to keen on the fish and chips. New England Claim Chowder was good. I'll pass on coming back to this place

Came here to have breakfast with a party of about 16 people. The staff was more than helpful to take our rezos, accommodate us as we arrived somewhat separately, and serve us all in a timely manner. The dining area & bathrooms are very clean. The restaurant is located right at the pier so you have a view of the beautiful ocean and the fishing pier. I had the shrimp and grits which was perfectly spicy, flavorful, & divine!! This was the first place we stopped at since our Fl vaca began and it is the perfect embodiment of all that is great about Florida. The friendly and pleasant people, the beautiful waters, & the southern food.

We decided to take a scenic drive from St. Augustine down the coast and happened to stop off at the Funky Pelican for breakfast. We asked to sit on the patio deck which was the best decision. As you sit you can see the swimmers and surfers. We ordered the pesto omelette and french toast. Both were delicious. Our waiter was very attentive. All in all we would return if we were back in the area.

The view can't be beat!! The food is yummy! Nice size portions. Our grandson enjoyed his hot dog and French fries. All of the varities of fish tacos are fantastic! Their grilled cheese is very cheesey. The pulled pineapple pork was good but a little on the dry side for us. We would ask for extra sauce next time and there will be a next time. I guess I would not order the grilled cheese again. The Maui tacos are one of my usual bec they are fantastic. Their burger is always awesome! Really I shouldn't have deviated from my favorites. But the servers are so friendly and the view so fantastic that we will be there often!

Great spot and great food. We had eggs and hash and the French toast. French toast is cinnamon swirl bread and dynamite and the hash goes awesome with eggs medium, cheese grits and a biscuit....but would be great with whatever I'm sure Here for only 5 days and will probably go back to try something else and maybe bloody Mary's and mimosas...who knows #getcray

I visit my parents often in Flagler Beach and they take me to their favorite spots and this is one of them, the Funky Pelican. They say they have to make reservations even during the weekdays. So we decided to make reservations on Saturday evening. The atmosphere is extremely pleasant, right in front of the ocean, you can sit inside or outside. The food is fresh caught fish that day and they have a great menu selection. I had their Jamaican chicken and shrimp with black beans and rice, very good. My parents had the twisted shrimp and Florida Ruben with blackened fish, Swiss cheese, citrus slaw, key lime remoulade on grilled rye bread and the side salad came with lightly fried garlic parmesan cheese. Excellent! Their happy hour is from 4-6pm.

We went fishing on the pier and realized that this restaurant was next door. The view was nice and we made reservations for lunch. We had a family reunion so we had a large party (13 people!). When we arrive they had two tables ready for us and they were prompt in taking our orders and bringing the food. The service was good and we all enjoyed lunch with a great view of the ocean. The food was very good and we'll go back next time we are in town.

This place could sell sand chowder and still get 4 star reviews it's all about the location. Set adjacent to the FBP what a recipe for success, I can't say anything about the interior because it's just a place to pass through to get to the outdoor bar. What a view the pier, the ocean, the beach, great cocktails and ice cold beer. I've never eaten here but the food looks great looking through the bottom of my glass. Great little bar on the deck staffed with friendly bartenders who are always busy mixing up refreshments. Definitely worth your time even if it just for one cold one as was the case today it's a short drive so I'll return frequently.

I go to tons of beach dives that rely on the view and don't care about the food or service. This isn't one of those dives, the food is equally as good as the view. We went on a Friday night for dinner and it was to cool to sit outside, but the inside views are great also. We had a smoked fish dip to start and my wife had a red clam chowder and I had chicken and dumplings, both were awesome. I had shrimp and grits that were some of the best I have tried and my wife had fish tacos equally tasty. The have a great drink menu and the prices are reasonable. We liked it so much we came back with my parents for breakfast the next day. Good omelettes, great hash, but the star for me was the orange creamcycle pancake. It was made with orange juice and had a cream cheese icing. Wow!!! This is don't miss for food with a view.

I'm sorry floridians... I don't enjoy the culture or the attitude, and I don't enjoy the food. I don't like giving bad reviews. And I should know better. We came because our parents love the place... An hour waiting for food that wasn't even worth the plates they were served on, was just poor taste. I thank the manager and the very overwhelmed server who was so rushed couldn't tell us how behind the kitchen was... And SHAME on the kitchen for advertising food that is bad and "lacking"... such as the 3 fish tacos with stale taco shells, and one of three with NO FISH, and very little fish in the other two. Blackened shrimp taco on stale taco shells and over covered with sauce and stuff to hide the "cocktail shrimp" that were sauteed (NOT BLACKENED) on one side and undercooked on the other. Really? And it took you an HOUR to get the food out of the kitchen? Our table wanted to tip under 10%, but I wouldn't accept that. Not her fault, but shame on her for not telling us how behind the kitchen was. Flustered patrons everywhere. And I am NOT a fan of "Ft. Lauderdale-ish frat sub par drinks". Sorry. But I should have known better. Shame on me for not getting up and leaving and taking my family for pizza. Or a burger. Or a hot dog.

Food was good. Pricey but worth it. View great thru big windows. A little noisey, with loud people and screaming babies, otherwise 5 stars. I and my GF generally liked it except for the noise which is not totally their fault.

Great view! Sit outside if you can. The food was great, service was good, everyone was friendly. :) we will be returning! We ordered the smoked fish dip, the fish Mac, and a apple/cranberry salad with grilled shrimp. Yummmmmmmm.

They have the best location in Flagler. The server was friendly. The food was fine but regular grill/pub type food. Nothing to write home about. The selection of beer on tap rather small and unimaginative. The fried fish was similar to something you might get from Skippers that budget seafood chain. The shrimp tacos were tasty but the flour tortillas were straight from the plastic bag and the plain sour cream sauce on the side rather straightforward. Really hard to justify the prices. They have a good cocktail list but really won't be back any time soon for this overpriced beach fare.

Beautiful view of the pier and beach....all downhill from there! Important to mention that dinner service was SLOW. APP: Really enjoyed the lobster and shrimp cheese dip! Only suggestion would be to use bread baked on site or smaller garlic toasts instead of the bread bowl. Review would be a 3 had we stopped here. ENTREE: Had the chicken orechiette (despite being misspelled on the menu--which in retrospect, might have been indicative of how much experience there was with this pasta). Was supposed to have chicken, mushrooms, bell peppers, sausage, and a cream sauce. Well, noticeably missing was the sausage. The pasta was bland, the chicken was tasteless, as if it, too, had been boiled. Sauce from the jar with a dash of heavy cream. Chicken was visibly not seasoned. So disappointing. Another guest in my party ordered the shrimp and grits. It came with pickled onions on top. Huh? Weird. The grits were so dry they looked like rice. Overall, the dish was less than impressive. I would only consider going back for lunch, but better option is down the street. Moral: do not underestimate your diners' palates, and if dinner is not your wheelhouse, then do not offer plated meals that extend beyond burgers and bar-fare.

What a great location. Too bad the food is not consistent. The first time we ate there is was good. The second time we found hair food in two dishes. We notified the server and she promptly took care of it and replaced our meals. She apologized and seemed embarrassed. The manager later came to apologize and took our two meals off the bill. They handled the situation with a A+++

Place was great when first opened. The past three times have been "not so good". Need to clean it, get a friendly bartender outside and work on the food. The Fish Rueben was my staple dish, not so much now. My husband tried the shrimp and grits again, very soupy and oddly colored.

There's more to a restaurant than food. First, the location is critical. Um... Check. Right on the Flagler Beach pier. Not a mediocre view in the place, inside or out. Second, you have to have places for people to sit. For some reason, young people seem to think that if there's a big wait then it must be good food. There's also the factor of having good management with vision that knows they're going to be able to turn a good restaurant into a great restaurant and so they provide lots of seating. Check. Finally, the staff has to be friendly. Check. Smiles all around. That extra star overrides the average quality of the food. At least it wasn't over priced. I had the fish and shrimp. It was okay. My wife and dad split the mahi fish tacos. They were both pleased. View, seating, staff that likes their jobs. That's what really did it.

Food was excellent! The view is great and service was friendly. Went on a decently cloudy and windy day, which is unfortunate because outdoor dining looks like a pleasure. If you go, I would highly recommend the gator bites and Fish Mac. Might sound a little weird, but it's a steal for how massive the sandwich is. I got lucky I was able to finish the whole thing and I'm usually a heavy eater. Will definitely return if I am in the area again.

Great view. Great drinks. Amazing food. I highly recommend the Fish Mac. Delicious! It is very rare that I don't finish my food. But this thing is HUGE! Funky Pelican is a great place to hang out, catch a great view on the pier and eat some amazing food!

The view from the outside area at the Funky Pelican is probably the best thing going on all of Flagler Beach. It's breathtaking both litereally and figuratively...because the cigarette smoke out there will kill you. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled coming from Miami where you're not allowed to smoke anywhere people are eating, but I was pretty bummed to not to able to sit outside and enjoy my dinner while enjoying the view. From the inside of the restaurant we had a pretty good and smoke free view, which was fine. Our server was really friendly and attentive, but the food wasn't as great as everything else this cute restaurant has going for it. My husband had the chicken and pasta. He said I make better at home, which is probably true. I make better at home on those nights where I only have fifteen minutes to pull together a meal. Meh. I had a pesto chicken sandwich. Again, it was fine, but the kind of food you make at home on a busy night. It was nothing special. Would I come back here? Maybe. It's probably worth another shot, but not any time soon. Also, there is absolutely no cell phone reception in the restaurant. If you're the kind of person who likes to work/talk/check out yelp while ignoring your family at dinner, you've been warned.

Excellent food, can't beat the view. Our server Annalisa was absolutely awesome and so good with my young daughter and my older grandmother who we had dinner with. Thank you for being great!

The best thing about this place was the view. Dining on the ocean is wonderful! The food was average and the service was not great. The waiter seemed disengaged. I won't be returning.

Got a chance to eat at the Funky Pelican last night while the in laws were in town. They wanted to sit outside which might not be the best idea if you're hungry. Because of the limited seating the wait time is longer. Took us about 30 minutes to be seated but hey, we chose to sit outside! We started off with the Gator Bites which were fantastic. My wife ordered the fish tacos which I really enjoyed but she thought to be way over seasoned. I ordered the burger which was awesome but the wife ended up eating. :( My father in law order the Fish Mac which looked amazing and my mother in law got the fish sandwich which she really enjoyed. The kid ordered chicken fingers. It's what she always orders, She liked them as usual. The beer selection here is not that great. Just typical BMC stuff. Perhaps I need to push them to start carry more craft especially local brews. Overall we loved it and will go back! The view was probably amazing but it was at night so no one could see anything,

Great Great Great Views from the restaurant. If the weather is good, get the outside seating the wind, and ocean are great. The indoor window views are very nice as well. I want to give 5 stars just for the views only, but I do have to review the food. We ate twice here while on vacation, and I am big on seafood. This place did not disappoint. They had a pretty decent selection of seafood. I ended up getting the Fish Mac both nights and my wife had the fried lobster tacos the first night and blackened shrimp tacos the second night. The Fish Mac is where it is AT! The sandwich is Huge, two fried up filets of fresh flounder, on three layered bun with lettuce tomato pickle and I added jalapenos -- Dang you know the food was good when your mouth waters while writing the review! The tacos were really good as well, they don't over cook the seafood so you still have the right texture on both the shrimp and lobster. And they use a nice coleslaw mix, with a decent enough bite without overdoing the mayo. We got the kids a basket of fried shrimp to share, and it was more than enough for the the two of them. I read reviews about the service, and yes I can say that the front staff can use some work. They are very unprofessional and seem almost dead. Our waiter Mike was great, although there seemed to be some confusion about our server the first night. Drinks were checked upon fairly regularly. The ambiance and views just cannot be beat, if you are in the Palm Coast, Flagler, or Daytona area be sure to check out this place. Def. worth the visit.

This place is worth visiting just for the view on back deck. Bonus for the quick service both times. Another thing I noticed, there was no wait for a table which really set the experience off on a good note. First time we came in was a Friday night. It was really busy, but we managed to find a place near the bar. They have a nice Happy Hour selection. Second time we came for lunch on Saturday. I recommend sitting outside if the weather is good. I give this place 4 stars because while the location and service was enjoyable, the food fell short. Don't get me wrong, it was simple and fair proprtions, but there was nothing about the peel n' eat shrimp or white fish sandwhich that would make me want to come back for it.

What an amazing evening with perfect ambiance and delicious food! Between myself, my boyfriend and his grandparents we had the sirloin, shrimp and grits and the fish (flounder) sandwich. We were all so pleasantly pleased. My sirloin steak was absolutely phenomenal with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Coupled with a glass of the house Cabernet, perfection! Lemont, our server, was pleasant and personable. The views were beautiful as well!

Fish sandwich is fantastic. Buffalo wings for an appetizer are a great choice! Piña Colada was a bit sweet but very good. Staff was very friendly and down to earth. Great environment and great ocean view.

Overall I had a good experience at the Funky Pelican. Drinks were a little on the expensive side even during happy hour. The view was great on the deck but a couple behind me was smoking the entire time I was trying to enjoy my meal. This is a huge negative for me and I'm sure for many, many others. They should enforce a no smoking rule on the deck. Service was decent. Our server was a nice girl but she must have been very busy because our table of 6 felt that we weren't getting enough of her attention. I got the impression that they were under-staffed. I ordered the jambalaya and it was very good! It was a huge portion with TONS of seafood, and a little spicy. Perfect and reasonably priced! I would definitely return to try more items on their menu, but I would skip the pricey drinks!

Such a great place! We normally go to el fuego across the street but our friends wanted to try something different. Food was AMAZING as well as the service. Defiantly going to be a place we go for great apps and drinks.

On deck looking at the pier. Our server Christian was very personable. He talked up some appetzers and drinks. We order the chicken flatbread which was very good. He said he would get our food out right away as he could tell we were all very hungry. We had a party of 6 people but when the food came out he did not have anything for Mom. As it turns out he did not put her order in. Kind of funny because she had asked several questions before deciding on the sandwich she ordered. He brought out some spicy soup which he said was complimentary and said they would end up comping the sandwich. He said the manager would visit. She got her food as the rest of us finished our meals. When the bill came they had not taken anything off. The manager never came out to us.

I returned to the Funky Pelican for breakfast with a friend. As we were leaving, we were looking through the t-shirts that they had for sale. One of folks that work at the restaurant was very annoyed by our looking through the shirts - she was super rude and asked me if I was planning on buying a shirt, if so what size - I had folded a shirt and was replacing it back on the shelf - she jerked the shirt out of my hand, refolded it and put in back on the shelf. I will complain to management today - I won't be back.

This place is perfectly located on Flagler Beach and provides awesome views of the ocean and beach while you dine. I've eaten here twice and both times were great. Food was very good and servers were very attentive. Couldn't ask for anything more when taking a break from the summer heat. Wings and fish tacos I highly recommend.

Waitress was very slow.... food took forever to get and 15 bucks for 7 fried shrimp is outrageous.... bison burger didn't even fit the bun and you only get maybe a small (very small hand) hand of french fries. I think this place is very overpriced and the portions are very small. I base this on several other restaurants that we went to in the Flager/ St. Augustine area.

  • Doug W.

Good enough for me. This was a reasonably priced place that is right on the pier. I didn't get to sit outside but that was ok. It was loud inside and very touristy but what would you expect. I got the shrimp and grits which only had 6 shrimp in it. It was tasty though. I thought the sauce was a bit overwhelming but the grits were really nice with it. The price was pretty low for a beachside place with nice views. Good for families and they had a pretty big menu. Looked like the outside dining was nice too. This is about 25 miles from Daytona but the drive up A1A was really nice after the towns ended. Nice motorcycle ride up the coast if you are looking for views of the ocean most of the way. Quicker on I-95 but not very scenic. There is street parking out front but I am guessing that may be challenging in high season. I would make a reservation in the summer if they take them. I had great service but it was off season so there were empty tables on a Thursday night. Not sure what this would be like in the busy times so plan ahead. Lots of places I passed had people waiting outside at 1900. Give it a try for the drive if nothing else.

Funky Pelican was our last stop before we headed on the road back to Virginia with my husband and a friend. If you have never tried alligator, I would highly recommend their Gator Bites as an appetizer. Perfectly fried and comes with horseradish sauce. For the entree, I had their shrimp and lobster roll and it was perfectly cooked served with fries. Not only their food was fresh but their customer service was superb. They went above and beyond especially after I had accidentally left my purse. I was already on the road about 3 hours away and the restaurant had already closed. The following day, I called about my purse and they had it aside and was going to overnight my belongings. I received it the next day and they didn't even ask for a fee. Thank you Funky Pelican!

Good victuals, simply put. The service (Aaron) and the view are bonuses. The shrimp was large and tasted quite fresh and the portion was more than we could consume in one sitting. We'd decided to try the wings as an appetizer and was not disappointed in the least, the were crispy and very hot. Temperature wise, not its seasoning although the medium we ordered had the right balance of heat, as you'd expect. My biggest letdown was not having room to order the key lime pie our neighboring table was polishing off, it oozed with decadence!

Sat at the indoor bar yesterday on my last day and town and ended it on a great note with Lindsay the bartender. What a surprise that there are still some quality bartenders out there. Will most certainly return the next time I am in town! (-:

Just enjoyed an exceptional dinner. Jambalaya was smooth and delicious. I've had it at several places including New Orleans and this rates at the top. My husband had the fish tacos which were packed and scrumptious. Service was great. Would give it 4.5 stars if we could.

Had lunch with friends today. Despite the gloomy weather it was still lovely to sit in the restaurant looking at the pier and the ocean. The atmosphere was casual and the food was OK. We shared the onion strings, and the Texas pedal sauce was the right spice to accompany it. Great start. I had the tabbouleh and quinoa salad with grilled shrimp and it was nice and refreshing. Lots of onion and crunchy stones.....but otherwise edible. The other dishes consisted of ribs and seafood salad sandwiches, which tasted fine, but nothing special about them. The sauce on the ribs was better than expected and the beer on tap was nice and cold. I would go back for a drink when we are here again but not necessarily the food..... Would love to be there with the sun shining overlooking the beach. Wait staff very friendly and took care of us nicely.

Service was good, waitress was friendly, but that didn't make up for the poor quality of the food. Only 1 person really enjoyed her meal. She said she would order the chicken quesadilla again. The worst were the fish tacos which were supposed to be made with mahi. They were cold, covered in purple cabbage, way too much cheese, and in the bottom there was something with the consistency of fish dip. When I did find a piece of something that resembled fish, it was about the size of a fingernail. Maybe they minced the fish. It did not have the taste or texture of mahi. Soooo disappointing. Will not go back.

Sorry to say, we did not have the 4 to 5 star experience we were hoping for. The view is lovely, but inside it is loud and conversation was hard. The service was very good, though. Unfortunately, most of the food was disappointing. Gator bites and beef sliders were yum, but the soup of the moment was clearly a moment in the making. As in, the sweet potato w/kale almost seemed like the cook gabbed a can of vegetable soup and added some chopped kale and a coupled pieced of diced sweet potato. Not what I expected from a restaurant so highly rated. Quinoa salad-quinoa on some greens, no developed flavor. All in all a so-so meal.

  • Karen S.

I can't believe how awful the food was. No seasoning, poor plates for the cost. Waitress smelled like an ashtray halfway through service. ( staff should NEVER take a smoke break when you have customers) "chef" walked through dining room sweating, chef jacket a mess and a disgusting towel draped over his shoulder coming out of the restroom while rubbing his hands on the towel on his shoulder. For the money that was paid, over a 100.00 for lunch for four with lazy refills on fountain drinks it was horrible. I told my out of town guest we should go to another restaurant because my last experience several years back were not great...they wanted to look out on the ocean, it took forever to find a parking place and they didnt have long before they had to go back to Georgia, so I agreed. How can a seafood restaurant that is right on the beach not have crabs? Clams? And the fish is soooo thin on top of being so small and three shrimp for over 15.00? No boiled shrimp, just a mess honestly. I am going to contact the owner because in a time where money is tight and to spend it eating in a place that cares more about the bar side then the care it should take for the food is just sad. I remember when this restaurant had cloth covered tables nice dishes, food not great but the didn't have, sticky tables that smalled of old bleach and trash left from the previous customer.

I give this a 4 for the view and my husbands omelette. Sat outside and the ocean and pier are right there. Went for breakfast. My husband said his omelette was a 5. He loved it. I had eggs and pancakes. Hard to mess up... the pancakes were ok. Coffee ok. Would come back for lunch or dinner. Husband would return for breakfast.

The Funky Pelican proved a delightful location for a family meal. We chose to eat on the deck, and the ocean view gave great vacation ambience. The prices are a bit higher than you might have expected when you looked at the unimpressive exterior, but the food will satisfy you most certainly!

This was a great restaurant. We are staying at Palm Coast and it was only about a 15 mininute drive. I had the salmon and the chocolate lava cake. The salmon was very tender and the sauce complemented the fish very very well, but the potato's were a bit dry. I don't normqly like chocolate cake, but the lava cake was EXCELLENT. It was warm and the filling was hot and gooey. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Best seafood I've ever had, ordered the jambalaya. Blackened salmon was also amazing. View can't be beat either, if it's too chilly for the peir the interior was also charming. Service was prompt attentive and friendly. Just great. If it were cheaper, I'd eat there every day.

Enjoyed drinks and appetizers during Happy Hour Wednesday. Neil was an awesome server that made the experience all the better. He actually sent the manager over when my friend asked if we could tour the kitchen (after I commented I felt like observing the kitchen and checking the walk in coolers after binging on episodes of Kitchen Nightmare on Netflix. Neil was a good sport while we mulled every decision over and engaged him in table banter. We had the wings special which were really good even though they were out of teriyaki sauce. And the Pelican Nest is delish and generous. With the Crab-Fusion to go the entire bill came to $31.

This was a great spot for a dinner date. Service and the food were very good. Very clean. Atmosphere in the evening was nice. The view, spectacular. Back deck looked inviting, but the weather was not cooperating. We opted for sitting inside which was also picturesque with huge windows. The menu has a good number of selections and our server was very attentive. New England Clam Chowder was made on site and excellent. Shrimp and Grits were some of the best we've had. Super fresh. All in all, an A+ place to eat when we were there.

GO! Just delightful to the end. We started with the smoked fish dip on rocket lettuces along side warm toasted sesame crisps. Next, the ahi tuna wraps were so fresh and the wasabi and ginger nice and zingy. We were in heaven. The mahi was generous and grilled perfectly, topped with a crazy banana/pineapple (plus) chutney which paired perfectly along side fresh lightly sauté/grilled zucchini. Finally, a rich and creamy cheese cake. If your lucky enough to drive by this gem on A1A, it's just crazy not to stop and enjoy a meal which is prepared by a wonderfully creative and talented chef. Last but not least, what would a meal be without great service and Andrea is tops! Thanks for the great memories.

Very nice restaurant! It was clean with a relaxing atmosphere. Stopped in here for lunch with a few friends and the fish tacos were amazing! The staff was super friendly and the service was fast. Will definitely visit this place again!

Great location by the pier, good service, excellent food, menu had a great variety, good size portions. We were a party of 7 and really enjoyed our meal! We would go back!

Great stop, on the beach just 5 minutes from 95 on our way home. Spectacular views and an excellent girl lied fish Reuben. Will definitely stop again.

My husand and I had breakfast there today while on vacation. The view of the ocean was beautiful and completely unobstructed, thus the reason we chose to eat there. Our waiter, Beau, was friendly and attentive though not overly so. I had the shrimp and grits (might have had a tad more Tabasco than other people would like, but, hey, I like it spicy!) and my hubs had the corned beef hash. Very tasty. We are thinking of going there for dinner. P.S. While it may look a little grungy from the outside it was very clean and nicely decorated inside.

We had lunch here last Monday. After reading the reviews before flying in, I knew it was not going to be amazing going in but I picked it as two in our party weren't seafood lovers, otherwise I would have chosen Hull's or Flagler Fish Company. What I experienced was truly bad. We ordered a couple apps - the calamari and the ahi tuna. The calamari was good but quite a small portion. The ahi was a small portion simply seared with a sesame crust, some wasabi, pickled ginger and a line of hoisin sauce drawn across the plate. The only saving grace was the seaweed salad served with it. For entrees my friend and I ordered the the catch of the day - grouper. He ordered it blackened and I just grilled, so I could taste the the fish itself. I took one bite and I too was served blackened. Worse, it was the most overdone, rubbery piece of nastiness I've ever had served to me in a restaurant. I immediately told the waiter and he apologized and said he's he'd get me a new piece cooked right up. What should have taken 5 or 10 minutes, turned into 25. So my plain, boring broccoli florets and from-a-box rice pilaf got cold while i waited. With everyone else already done with their meals, my newly cooked piece arrived. Another overdone, piece of rubber. I couldn't even tell if it was grouper, and if it was, whether it was fresh or not. I highly doubt it. And $19 for it. Just terrible!

2 people with cocktails and dinner platters $47.00. Not bad. Had the fried shrimp, scallops, fish and better half had rib eye with a blue cheese topping. Both were good. Staff was friendly.

Great Food, Great View! Our waitress Haley was so knowledgeable of the menu we were shocked she only worked there 2 months. We expected Pub food but we got Gourmet Chef wonderful food. I had the Veggie Paella, hubby had the shrimp. We enjoyed the meal and the wonderful ocean view.

Lunch here was great!! First of all the staff was super friendly and the food...well I had the fish tacos, delish, my husband had the seafood ceviche, light, cool and very flavoful (and fresh)! $3.00 drafts a great beachfront setting. What more could you want?

Despite the negative input I got about this place from a local, I had a superb experience here. I love how wonderful the place looks and the beach view is spectacular. I had the Shrimp and grits entree for breakfast, and it was delicious. My first time eating shrimp and grits, and I am very picky about grits! It is a little bit pricier than the restaurant that use to be here, yet I think the prices are fair. The service was excellent and friendly. I hope they add fried calamari and raw oysters to the menu. I don't remember them being on the menu at that time. A great place to bring visitors to Flagler Beach. I brought some family to this place, and they want to make it a ritual to come here every time they visit. Can't wait to come back here again!

Went to the funky pelican for lunch with a friend and we basically checked it off as a one time only visit. our food was mediocre, our server wasn't attentive we have to continually call him to refill our Drinks. Our overall experience was not good. The ambience was good ,the view was wonderful ,but the food was so-so.

Consistently fantastic. Always very fresh, high quality ingredients are used by a well-trained and an experienced chef. Great service and very accommodating to dietary needs. Right on the beach with a great outdoor patio. I'm a foodie- this place rocks!

We went last night - there were 4 of us... all adults, and we were cheerfully seated outside without a wait. The restaurant has a great location overlooking the ocean. The sound of the waves can lull you into a mellow mood quicker than their selection of mixed drinks. UNFORTUNATELY, the tables are 2-facing-2, so one couple (us) was stuck looking 'in' and the other couple got the A+ view looking 'out'. The restaurant should, and could - orient the tables 90-degrees so that everyone gets a view. Our server, Lara, was spectacular. We asked if there was any standouts on the menu, and she steered us from items to avoid. We ended up ordered soups and splitting appetizers. I ordered the Clam Chowder, and I suggest you order it, too. It's chunky and DELICIOUS and always available. The "Special of the Moment" Bisque was good, but I saw half-eaten bowls go back. The 3 apps we ordered and split were #1 "Pelican Nest" - Shoestring fried onions. Very good and worth the money. #2 - "Boneless Fish Ribs"... these were exactly what the menu said they were; strips of fried fish. #3 - "Twisted Shrimp" - which were fried popcorn shrimp swimming in garlic butter. GREAT THINGS: SERVICE, SETTING & PRICE NOT SUCH GREAT THINGS: THE FOOD. Net-net, I'd go back there again, but I'd do so with managed expectations. I'm not going to go looking for anything healthy except for the wine, the view and the great service.

I've only been for breakfast once, but was very impressed! The location is absolutely perfect, being right on the beach with a beautiful deck and huge windows surrounding the restaurant, and the prices are fantastic. Being in a beach town, they could probably get away with charging a lot more, but they have actual diner prices and high quality food. Our waitress was very friendly and all of us enjoyed our breakfast. We had a variety of pancakes, an omelet, and the granola fruit bowl and everything was delicious. Coffee was great!

Food was pretty good, servers were nice and the view was top notch. I got the shrimp cocktail the they were huge shrimp. My Cesar salad was the usual kind. The decor inside is really nice as well. I enjoyed my first visit.

View, food and service were all great. My husband had a burger and fries and enjoyed it. I had the peel and eat shrimp appetizer for my meal and they were very good. We sat in the patio and although it was hot we enjoyed the view!!!

EXCELLENT place to grab a bite. The front person was wonderful who sat us. She was pleasant and made the trip to the FUNKY PELICAN start off on the right foot. :) The server, Jeff, was very good as well. I had the SWIMMING Ruben Sandwich (Fish, instead of the Walking Ruben, Corned Beef). The sandwich was a good sized, presented well wtih their waffle fires. . . Excellent - I definitely would reccommend . Also, look for a place to SIGN the OUTSIDE WALL in CHAULK. Cool place, great little town, wonderful people. GOOD PROTIONS and GOOD PRICING!!! THANK YOU JEFF !!!!

Good food and a nice view. They were very accommodating with our reservation and sitting outside. (Sitting outside is not guaranteed with a reservation). They were also accommodating with menu changes. Our waitress was very nice and kept checking on us. Very good experience!

I have to say I really enjoyed the Funky Pelican. The scallops were amazing, the only thing I would say is they should use fresh veggies. The view is amazing, staff is friendly and well trained.

First time at Funky Pelican. Had guests visiting from Marco Island and wanted to give them a great experience. It did not happen! Wish the Flagler fish Co. Was open Sunday! Dinner 1 fish Rueben the fish was thin and overcooked to the point it was hard crisp. Dinner 2 wahoo was slightly overcooked. Dinner 3 shrimp and grits was the best of the 4 . Dinner4 was the seafood paella nothing to talk about. I ordered garlic bread with the shrimp and grits that came late and was hard and for the most part in edible . The fries with the fish Rueben were cold! Needless to say we were disappointed and will not go back!

Great service. Excellent Minorcan chowder and Italian Wedding Soup. Fried haddock sandwich is crunchy and moist inside. Check this place on the beach!

If I could give negative stars I would. You couldn't pay me to go back here. It took an hour to get a burger! We ordered the pelicans nest, more like salt nest! Absolutely horrible service. Had to ask for honey mustard and water 3 times.

Awesome atmosphere! Sat outside, right beside the pier and beech. Service was excellent. I had the Fish Tacos, which were amazing. A lot for your money. This was the last day of our 7 day vacation from Walt Disney and it couldn't have ended any better. Thanks. When we return to Florida, we plan to make a stop at the Funky Pelican.

We had an exceptional time here. Gorgeous setting on the beach and fantastic service and food. Rare for an oceanfront restaurant like this to have great food. The blackened swimming Reuben was delicious and the variations of fried seafood were perfect. We'll definitely return any time we head through Flagler.

Came here for lunch and had the salmon salad sandwich & ice tea. The sandwich arrived in a rather large serving basket that the amount of fries they gave me looked pretty scarce (either pile on the fries in the large basket or serve it in a smaller basket). The salmon sandwich said it had roasted red peppers, fresh dill, garlic mayo, but I had a hard time tasting it. I could see it in the salmon salad mix, but the flavor just wasn't there. Thankfully the sandwich had tomato, lettuce, and onion (all were fresh & no mealy tomato here). While the sandwich was good, I have a feeling the burger would have been a better choice. BTW the ocean view is amazing and I love the bar overlooking the beach.

Great food and friendly service, as well ad reasonably priced. Will definitely return! I had their bacon sausage and egg breakfast and really enjoyed the sausage. My mom ordered the pesto omelette and it was truly amazing. A must when visiting Flagler Beach.

Excellent and reasonably priced fried shrimp. Nice view of beach on the pier. We have only tried a few places so far in Flagler Beach but this was the best combination of good food and nice beach view/atmosphere.

Brand new restaurant on the gorgeous Flagler Pier. Food is your standard fish and seafood grub. Highly recommended for breakfast. Beautiful interior!

If you are vegan, it's hard to find a sit-down restaurant in Flagler beach with anything healthy to eat. The Funky Pelican has one option, the Vegetable Paella (although I didn't not ask how it was prepared).

I thoroughly enjoyed my mixed grass salad with blackened fish. My server, JC, was kind and hard working. The view directly looking over and at the ocean just north of the fishing pier makes this all the better a great meal spot. The menu isn't large but definitely sufficient choices, mostly American style choices. The green board outside is a unique touch, so you can add your name to the chalk board.

Decent food. The atmosphere was nice. We sat out on the deck overlooking the ocean. We were a large party and the wait time for our food was pretty long. Several smaller parties came and went before we got our food.

Great food. HUGE servings. The Fish Mac is simply the best fish sandwich around town! The chicken wings are so delicious. They are crispy and the sauce is super good. Broccoli slaw is a must have. The coffee is not too bad either. Prices are totally fair. Couple the good food with the great view, and the Pelican is where it's at.

Excellent service & fabulous food!! We came with a friend with Celiac and the manager & staff were very specific and careful regarding the menu items that he could have! The Boardwalk Breeze martini is very yummy, as well!! Great experience!

Have been there twice for lunch. First visit was spotty. Not sure why raw onions on my burger were free but grilled onions were an extra 69 cents???? I had a burger that said it had avocado on top, but it was actually an avocado spread, not the real thing. Overall, however, the food was good. Our service was prompt and friendly. The second visit was better - we were a party of 8, got seated promptly on a saturday afternoon. Drinks came quickly - food was a bit slow, but it was a party of 8....I had the corned beef reuben and it was EXCELLENT! Staff was very friendly and patient....Several folks had the fish sandwich and loved it. The salmon salad sandwich was great also - very lite mayo, which was appreciated. We live in Flagler Beach and are so glad to have a nice new restaurant in town!

Under new ownership, and a new name. Hired Erin from the Daytona Beach Shores Resort and Hotel as General Manager, so you know it's innovative and higher quality than before. It's no longer a local "dive", highly renovated. Very busy but things will settle in for the long term. Much better assortment of adult beverages than the old place. Didn't have time for a dinner, but will be sure to go back. Everyone very friendly. funkypelican.com

Newly opened and definitely a work in progress. Nice outside deck and bar with great view however, the menu choices and quality leave a lot of room for improvement. At this point there is so much better in the area. I hope they get better.

I have been so looking forward to visiting the Funky Pelican on Flagler Pier, so today was the day. Best location in the area, great, fun decor but I was quite disappointed in the food. Maybe it was my mistake not to order fish, but the "Brisket Burger" sounded so wonderful...it was not. I paid an extra $1.50 for the Funky Burger because I love avocado. The menu clearly says "with avocado". No actual avocado in sight, just some creamy green stuff-not even guacamole squirted in a circle on the burger. Three tiny, very thin rings of onion and some shredded lettuce. The meat appeared and tasted like a frozen patty from Cosco or Sam's. This was definitely not a $10 burger. I will go back and give them a second chance, but not on a burger. The service was top notch, portions were generous and the fries were awesome. Just a head's up to whomever is in charge-because I do want you to succeed-put some real avocado, leaf lettuce and a whole slice of onion on these burgers. Your burger is just too close to Burger King.
